PeroCycle is addressing the 2.8 billion tons of CO2 annually emitted by the steel industry. By developing a thermochemical reactor which takes in the flue gas emissions from traditional steelmaking and converting this into carbon monoxide and oxygen, the CO2 can be utilised as a critical input for blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace steelmaking. By capturing and converting emissions from steelmaking, the benefits of traditional steelmaking, such as a wide variety of available steel compositions and useable iron ore types can be combined with the decarbonisation requirements to meet net-zero targets.

With Pero Cycle existing steel plants can be converted to clean facilities, minimising stranded assets, avoiding costly investment in new facilities and saving high-skilled-jobs within the industry.
